Gonzalo Vaíllo is a registered architect in Spain and principal founder of the Vienna-based studio MORPHtopia. He holds a doctorate in architecture from the University of Innsbruck and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (international cotutelle 2022), a postgraduate degree in experimental architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2014) and a degree in architecture from the University of Alcalá (Spain, 2010). His writings and theoretical works focus on aesthetics, technology, and philosophy for the development of a design theory of excess as design material. His practical work revolves around the notion of open architecture. Gonzalo is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Experimental Architecture - Building Design and Construction (Studio Schmidbaur), researching the topic of affect and teaching bachelor and master design studios. He has also been a visiting professor at Texas A&M University and has taught at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
